field recordings of carnival rituals in the city of amphissa, greece. recorded march 8, 2008

Haunted by a local pagan custom of his origins, dead traveller delivers “The Ghost”, a peculiar series of intense ambient soundscapes interrupted by short traditional lyrical themes. This is actually raw extracts of field recordings of a carnival that took place in the city of Amphissa, Greece, captured on a cheap mini-disk on the 8th of March 2008, in which paraders get dressed in cow-bells and goat-skins, while the observing crowd bangs on metallic boxes and cans. Throughout these chaotic sonic circumstances Nicolas Malevitsis (aka dead traveller, founder and keeper of Absurd), managed to capture the parade’s primitive essence and contain it into this audio document. Information about the origins of the 'stoiheio' and the custom surrounding it are included with the disc.
