Singer-turned-politician Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has clarified the issue of signing Big Brother Naija Season 6 winner Whitemoney to Empire Mates Entertainment.
On September 20, 2022, Whitemoney made headlines after sharing photos of him and Banky on Instagram, adding that it was time for him to make some good music.
Many believed the singer and Shine Ya Eye edition winner had been signed to the label.
However, in a recent interview on Hot FM Lagos, Banky W dismissed the report as he made it clear that he had not signed the reality TV star.
According to Banky W, EME transformed from a record label into a media and marketing agency in 2017.
Banky added that he only helped Whitemoney secure an ambassadorial deal with a company he consults for.
He reiterated that this was strictly an influencer deal for one of the corporate brands EME works with.
He said: “We have gone from a record label to a media and marketing agency. I didn’t sign Whitemoney, we helped him with an influencer deal with one of the corporate clients we serve, so he’s an ambassador for a company. So we helped him with a marketing situation. We did not sign it”.
Whitemoney released their debut single titled “Selense” earlier in March.
Following criticism over the new single, the reality star has vowed to become a Grammy-winning artist by 2023.
“Music is the food of my system, for those who don’t believe, I don’t blame you, I try to make more friends and less enemies, I promise that one day I will go and win the Grammys,” he said.
